A Little Grief - Much Unbelief

A Little Grief – Much Unbelief

“David the king” (Matthew 1:6)

Dave Gamble dead!
“King” David dead! -
not ‘King of the Jungle’,
King of the Methodists,
2009.

(“What I have written
I have written.”)

And me depressed ten months.
So – not at the Funeral.
Not even the Memorial.
I could not lift the telephone
for Liz.

The man I knelt with
half a century ago
for Compline.

The man I watched men on the moon with.

The fellow-sailor on so many waterways.

The man who married me
to Ruth.
The man who scattered
ashes of her,
and said prayers.

The man who read of Love
when Kath became my wife.

A man I could drink whisky with
and talk of Jesus.

“May he rest in peace
with Ruth, and Barry,
Peter, Mum and Dad;
with Mabel and with Auntie B –

AND RISE IN GLORY!”
